Is the first element on the periodic table, it's colourless and odourless, it is a group 1 element and is very reactive.

Discoverer:  Henry Cavendish

- Being a non-metal, Hydrogen has no magnetic properties.  It is flammable and reacts with a lighted splint making a squeaky pop sound.

- It is similar to all other group 1 elements having only 1 valence electron but is different from its other group members as they are all metallic.

​

- Hydrogen reacts best with elements from group 7 (the Halogens), which it combines with halogens to form covalent compounds such as HCI, hydrogen chloride, more commonly known as Hydrochloric acid.
